Kafala

The kafala system in Lebanon is a sponsorship-based labor framework that governs the employment of migrant domestic workers. Under this system, workers’ legal status is tied to their employers, often leading to limited rights and vulnerabilities such as restricted freedom of movement, exploitation, and abuse. Despite ongoing calls for reform, the kafala system remains a significant challenge for migrant workers’ rights in Lebanon.
